SUMMARY:Far From Home
DESCRIPTION:Third time’s a charm… it has been a bumpy road back to the theatre\, but we have persevered. After two separate incidents halted our production of “Far From Home” we are even more determined and excited to share this important work with you! See it Wednesday\, Dec. 8th at Sebits Auditorium on the campus of Friends University\, Wichita\, KS. \nDance is an art form like no other. There’s something magical about watching dancers moving on stage\, exuding grace and power\, telling a story through movement. \nNobody knows this better than Regina Klenjoski\, Choreographer and Artistic Director of the Regina Klenjoski Dance Company (RKDC). Regina is sharing her dance theater performance “Far From Home\, ” first performed in 2019\, with Wichita audiences. This is a story very near-and-dear to her own heart: the story of her parent’s migration to America from Macedonia more than 50 years ago. \nBut this isn’t what you might expect from a traditional dance show. The multimedia dance performance also features documentary film\, poetry\, and original music from Macedonian composer Toni Kitanovski. It’s a larger-than-life cinematic experience showing that we all have much more in common than we think. \n“Audiences can expect exquisite dancing with a company of five performers\, in very athletic and expressive movement.  The dance is really rooted in these themes that overarch the entire evening: immigration\, migration\, and home.  They can expect poetry\, original and live music\, and film. A 14-minute documentary sets the stage and opens the show. So there are many different theatrical elements that are coming together with contemporary dance. It’s very visual\, cinematic and full of moving content\,” Regina shared during her TOCA Backstage interview with Chris Wolf. \nAfter the premiere in 2019\, the pandemic prevented subsequent live performances so RKDC obtained a grant from the Kansas Creative Arts Industries Commission (KCAIC) to create a cinematic film of the work\, which will be filmed this November and December. All proceeds from the performance will support artist fees and production costs for the film.

He is collaborating with award-winning poet and writer\, Yara Zgheib\, to mix in poetry and story to Dust and Ions\, as well as writing a whole new 40-minutes of original music. SUMMARY:In Full Bloom
DESCRIPTION:RKDC has partnered with Botanica to premiere two new works\, Radical Joy and US\, in the gorgeous gardens this spring. US is a continued development of a short dance film that premiered in Duets for My Valentine last February. How do we channel our passionate and powerful feelings to illuminate for good\, and not to cross over and enflame?  The dancers use powerful movements and gestures of patriotism and solidarity to find connection to one another. Limited outdoor seating available in order to adhere to health safety measures for physical distancing.

SUMMARY:Suite Tooth
DESCRIPTION:Choreographer Regina Klenjoski describes her company’s next Wichita appearance as “a feast for your senses.” She along with company members Sarah Frangenberg and Max Mayerle have created a series of dance works\, collectively known as “Suite Tooth\,” to be performed in the intimacy of Vanya Designs\, the studio of designer Alicia V. Ybarra. Audience members can partake in delicious desserts and purchase cocktails to complete the indulgent evening. \n“If you’ve visited Vanya Designs\, you’ll wonder how we’re going to dance there\,” says Klenjoski. “Alicia beautifully transforms the space to create intimate seating on both sides of the space\, offering a slightly different viewing experience for each audience member. Seating is limited to 50 guests per evening to keep the experience distinctive.” \nFilling that space will be a new work by Klenjoski\, “IMbody\,” a suite of dances conceived from a visceral exploration and embodiment of abstract movement ideas. Klenjoski is exploring the idea of “allowing” body intelligence to come forward and how stored human experiences in the body are expressed as meaningful stories for the viewer. Klenjoski will also share her duet “Lifeline” from “Far From Home\,” an exploration of the immigrant experience which premiered in Wichita last May. Company member Sarah Frangenberg will be premiering a new work\, “Raah\,” which aims to illustrate with movement\, the meaning of this Hebrew word and the meaning of the English word ‘raw.’ Company member Max Mayerle performs in his solo work “Aged Totems\,” a reflection on how traditional masculinity effects mens relationships and how they act in society. \nGet lost in the beauty that is DANCE as RKDC celebrates 20 years of inventive choreography\, fierce athleticism and compelling storytelling. \nChoreography: Regina Klenjoski\, Sarah Frangenberg and Max Mayerle\nPerformers: Max Mayerle\, Makayla Williams\, Nadia Khalidi\, Sarah Frangenberg \nTHANK YOU TO OUR WONDERFUL COMMUNITY PARTNERS FOR THE 2019-2020 SEASON\n\nNational Endowment for the Arts\nKansas Creative Arts Industries Commission\nWichita Arts Council\nRehearsal space generously donated by Wichita State University Dance Department\nRehearsal space sponsored in part by Kansas Dance Academy

SUMMARY:Dante’s Nightmares & Dreams
DESCRIPTION:Directed and Conceived by Nick Johnson. Choreographed by Regina Klenjoski. \nDante’s Nightmares and Dreams is a multidisciplinary collaboration between the WSU Dance Program\, the WSU Wind Ensemble\, the WSU Media Resource Center and Shocker Studios. Dance\, live music and film will weave a story about Dante’s descent into hell\, an adaptation of The Inferno that takes place in Dante’s mind\, a person tortured by dreams of man’s inhumanity to man\, a historical look at some of history’s darkest moments. Dante\, with the help of his muse\, gathers the strength to dispel the darkness in his mind\, overcome his fear and solitude\, and ascend to a place that celebrates the human spirit defined by ingenuity\, innovation and creative potential. \nThe work first demonstrates the irrationality of man’s decisions to diminish the human condition\, to obstruct freedoms\, to destroy life itself. The work then reminds us that there are creative impulses that have moved us forward through invention\, creative endeavor and the enhancement of the human condition. Dante is steered by his muse to acknowledge activities that bring light and hope rather than succumbing to a dark history that leaves a trail of sadness\, futility and desperation. In a sense\, the work is a warning to remember the past or be doomed to repeat it.
