CONVERGE II: NEW SPACES is a vibrant celebration of contemporary dance in the Midwest, uniting two premier dance companies to present original works across Kansas and Kansas City, MO. The project builds community among regional artists, expands creative approaches through cross-pollination, and partners with arts organizations in Wichita, Kansas City, and Lawrence to offer opportunities for Midwest audiences to engage with contemporary dance, an underrepresented art form in the region.
Building on the success of the first CONVERGE in 2023, this collaboration between Regina Klenjoski Dance Company (Wichita) and Tristian Griffin Dance Company (Kansas City) brings dance to NEW SPACES, showcasing performances in unconventional locations across Kansas. Experience FREE performances, dance workshops, open company classes, open rehearsals, and artist talkbacks as 14 artists create, teach, and perform in venues such as libraries, museums, and parks.
The event kicks off from May 27 to 31 at the University of Missouri, Kansas City, with a creative residency where dancers from both companies will learn new works by Choreographer and Director Tristian Griffin and Kansas City-based guest choreographer Elaine Kimble. From June 3 to 7, the companies will travel to Wichita State University to learn new works by Choreographer and Director Regina Klenjoski and San Francisco-based guest choreographer Natasha Adorlee. Performing artists include Aviance Battles, Andrae Carter, Kaitlyn Gardner, Troy Gardner, Jaeden Johnson, Regina Lombardo, Aspen Nell, Timothy Portwood, and Rhiannon Vieyra.
Starting June 8, don’t miss the many unique opportunities to see dance “outside the box” and engage with these artists in accessible, public settings. All activities are free or have a suggested donation, with all proceeds going directly to support artist salaries for CONVERGE II.
