“The Golden Apple” is an innovative interdisciplinary contemporary dance production that seamlessly weaves spoken word, film design, original music, and dance together. Drawing inspiration from the Macedonian folk tale The Boy Who Hid in the Golden Apple, this anti-fairytale explores themes of power and stewardship in a modern context. Artistic Director and Choreographer Regina Klenjoski crafts an imaginative evening-length work that uses contemporary dance as an abstract language to question the impact of economic and social systems on our planet’s conservation. The story follows a young rural protagonist, who, with the help of nature’s creatures, defies a kingdom’s control over wealth, land, and people. The Golden Apple is a thought-provoking and visually stunning production that challenges the audience to reflect on our interdependence with the natural world.

Choreography by Regina Klenjoski, original music by Michael Wall, Poetry by Wanderer, Costume Design by Susan Rendall with Denise Lichter, Film by Stephen Goldblatt, Lighting Design by Zan de Spelder and performed by Aviance Battles, Cal Faer, Elleigh McClelland, Tim Portwood, Rile Reavis, Cydnee A. Reese and Rhiannon Vieyra.

“The Golden Apple” is supported in part by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Kansas Creative Arts Industries Commission, and the Mid-America Arts Alliance.  This work was created and developed at Andover Dance Academy through a generous partnership with owner Katie Anderson.
